In 1983, Michael Nicholas left Southern University in Baton Rouge. Louisiana to pursue a career in the field of Civil Engineering Technology with the US Department of the Interior , Bureau of Reclamation, Lakewood, Colorado. The Bureau of Reclamation is responsible for the development and maintenance of concrete and earth dams in the United States. The responsibilities included technical drawing, developing structural and steel design, along with fluid mechanics design. He took a leave of absence in 1988 to further pursue working in the energy business under the guidance of Mr. J.T. Smith, CEO of SDS Petroleum Products, Inc., Aurora, Colorado. At SDS, Michael was responsible for the marketing of natural gas, fuels, and lubricants for this reseller of petroleum products. He also worked with Federal Government contracts and private sector clients to identify and develop business opportunities. Creating and submitting bids and rfp's, along with negotiating contracts was also a function of Michael's position. Participating in strategic planning and the formulation of business strategies were also tasks that he had to undertake as well. Michael was also responsible for all aspects of customer service and support. In the summer of 2000, Mr. Nicholas started NIMS Services, Inc. Since that time, Michael has been the guiding force of the company, securing contracts with companies such as American Airlines, Chevron Global Lubricants and X-Cel Energy. He has also been successful in obtaining a past performance history with the Federal Government by contracting with Schriever AFB, Colorado Springs, Colorado and the US Army, Ice Harbor Dam installation in Pasco, Washington.
